I can’t help but mess with him. “Did you miss me?”

I swear I can hear the bones in his jaw creak as he answers me. “Don’t, Sara. Now’s not the time.”

I let out a deep breath. “Daniel...”

“You left.”

He looks at me as if I just completed some heinous crime or something. I start to laugh, and when his frown deepens, I reach for him. “Daniel... I’m fine. You don’t have to follow me everywhere I go.”

He looks at me accusingly. “You said you liked it.”

I shrug. Honestly, I do, but I know the man needs to work too. “I do... but I wanted to do something. I was wanting to surprise you.”

He rubs his hands up and down my arms. “Well, you did that. I was definitely surprised when you snuck out. Poor Christy, I’m going to have to give her a raise.”

I cringe because I tried to warn her. I slide my hands up his chest. “How did you know where to find me?”

He shrugs, his face guarded. “I always know where to find you.”

I slap him on the chest. “How, Daniel?”

He puts his hand at the nape of my neck. “Don’t be mad.”

I shrug. It’s not like I can stay mad at him anyway. “Okay.”

“The app on your phone.”

My mouth drops. “You put an app on my phone?”

He pulls his phone from his pocket and shows me the app. “Yes, but you have the same one on yours. All you have to do is open it and you’ll know where I’m at all times.”

I start to giggle. “It’s sort of a waste of an app, really. I always know where you’re at... right with me.”

“Marry me, Sara.”

I open my mouth, and he softly covers it with the palm of his hand. “Hear me out. I love you, you know that. And I know you feel the same. Put me out of my misery and tell me that you’ll be my wife.”

I start to talk, and he pulls his hand back. “Daniel, the only reason I’ve held back is because I wanted you to be sure. I didn’t want you to change your mind about us ... I wouldn’t survive it.”

He shakes his head. “Sara, how can you think that? You’re it for me. Since the moment I laid eyes on you, you’ve been the one my heart beats for. Marry me?”

I search his face and see the sincerity there. I’ve been a fool to put him off. “Yes. I’ll marry you.”

He pulls me in for a tight hug. His kiss seals over my mouth, and he shows me exactly how much I mean to him. When he pulls away, he’s holding up a small box. He opens it and doesn’t even hold it out for me to see, he just pulls it out of the box and slides it on my finger. “There.”

I look at the ring and up at him. It’s the same one he’s tried to give me every time he’s asked me to marry him. I’m not even surprised that he has it in his pocket. “I love it.”

He smiles. “Okay, so now let’s talk about this surprise.”

I gulp. “It’s not much of a surprise now. I mean, what do you get the man that can buy everything he wants? But I mean”—I point to the bed in the middle of the room and then the door—“I don’t know anything yet.”

He leans his forehead against mine. “You’re pregnant, baby.”

I gasp. “How do you know that? I mean, I haven’t even taken the test or seen the doctor.”

He smiles, gesturing to my chest. “Your breasts are bigger and when I touch you”—he slides his hand to the side of my breast and brushes them easily as I jerk—“you’re sensitive.”

I’ve hoped, but I wasn’t sure. “If I am, you’re going to have to marry me sooner rather than later. My dad will not be happy...”

“Done. We’ll do it today.... after we leave here.”

“Daniel...”

He hugs me against him. “We can have the bigger wedding later, any time you want, but I need you to be my wife now... no more waiting.”

I barely get the words out to agree and Daniel’s hollering for the doctor down the hallway. When he comes back, the doctor’s glasses are on his face sideways and he’s straightening them. “Okay, so I guess we’re ready then,” he says as Daniel lets go of his lab coat.

Thirty minutes later, we’re leaving with a little black and white printout of our baby and a prescription for vitamins.

We’re standing outside, hovering over the little picture when Daniel breaks the silence. “Are you happy?”

I look at the little miracle on the paper and then up at him. “I can honestly say I’ve never been happier.”

He kisses my lips, holding me close. “I’m going to be even happier when you are my wife.”
