“Holy shit,” she breathes. “That’s bold as fuck!”

“Right?” I whisper. “So, I was shocked, obviously, and I realize I probably should have been a little irritated that I wasn’t warned beforehand, but it was so hot I had to let it continue. I’ve never felt anything like that before.” I breathe out an exhale from my lips, feeling the need to take a cold shower.

“I’m kind of in shock myself,” Mattie admits. “I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time,” she jokes, hand pressed to her chest in dramatic fashion.

“For me to have a threesome?” I ask in return, the joke clear in my tone and the tilt of my head. Mattie rolls her eyes at me as she stands to clear away her breakfast and refresh her coffee. I do the same as we head to the conference side by side.

When we are coming up on my booth, I feel a hand wrap around my hip and turn my head to find Kade smiling at me. He’s godawful handsome with his tanned skin, black hair brushed back from his high forehead, and gleaming blue eyes. Right now, they’re dancing with knowledge, and I know exactly why.

I smile at him as a blush covers my face. It feels as though I’ve been flushing more than ever recently, so I dip my head to hide it. A thick finger pushes beneath my chin to raise my face as Kade leans in for a slow kiss.

“Hello, beautiful,” he drawls as he draws back from the kiss.

“Hi,” I whisper, unable to vocalize anything else at this point.

“Hey, Kade,” comes Mattie’s confident greeting. I can hear the smirk in her voice. I roll my eyes with a small smile, knowing she’s biting her cheeks to keep herself from saying something to embarrass me.

“Mattie, nice to see you again,” Kade says politely with a nod, glancing briefly in her direction. He looks back to me with a grin and says in a low voice, “You look gorgeous.”

I have to clear my throat, still unused to such affections from a man like Kade.

“Thank you,” I smile with more confidence. “Are you ready for a day of adoring fans?”

“I’m always ready for adoration,” he says cockily. I can’t help but laugh. He seems to beam in response.

When we finally reach the booth, Kade releases my hip and leaves my side with a wink. I watch as he stands in front of the booth, looking every bit like the Greek God that he is. Women flock to him and to the booth, and although I stay busy talking with fans and signing books, I can’t help but keep an eye on his huge form.

Any woman that has spent time with Kade in the way that I did last night would be jealous of the astounding level of attention that he is getting. While he does a great job of interacting with every person that comes up to him, he also has a way of making me feel like he only has eyes for me.

That thought alone has my brain in a whirlwind. It was only one night, plus Kade has Brandon. Brandon and Kade are together. Last night was so hot, but there’s no way they would have any interest in keeping this thing going. Right?

I snap back to the present as I greet the next fan, making eye contact with Kade for a brief moment as I’m saying hi to the woman in front of me. It takes immense focus to pull my eyes from him, but I pay the fan the attention she deserves – I wouldn’t have a job if it weren’t for people like her, so I make sure she knows how appreciated she is.

The cycle continues and I work hard to keep my attention where it should be, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t slip up every so often. How can you not look at Kade? I find myself gazing again, pulling my bottom lip between my teeth as I do so.

“You’re a lucky lady,” a voice comes from in front of me. Coming back to myself, I turn my eyes to the next person in line.

“Oh, we’re-” I almost tell the truth – that we aren’t together. I almost forgot about the pretend boyfriend aspect of it all. Things are getting mixed up in my head at the realization. Is Kade putting on an act today? Was the kiss this morning for show? I try to remember if there were fans around that could have seen at that time. I clear my throat and quickly offer my thanks.

“He’s really into you,” the fan continues with a beaming smile. “It’s such a fairy tale come true.”

“Thank you. I feel the same way about him too,” I claim, smiling sincerely. I sign the book and catch Kade’s eye once more as she leaves the booth.
