“You brought company? You didn’t mention the company, Reon.”

“Must have forgotten,” he says dismissively as they walk to a car that is awaiting his arrival on the tarmac while other men walk to the plane with a nod from Reon. She climbs into the back, and Reon opens the front passenger door. “We have to talk,” he says to me, referring to Hannah.

I nod and take the passenger seat as a driver sits in the car, waiting. I can feel her stare as he slides into the back seat behind me.

“Why are you bringing company on business trips?”

“That is my business, Hannah.” His jaw tightens as he briefly glances at Hannah, and I look away, staring out the window and listening as they talk.

“Are you fucking her?”

“Yes.”

I feel my lips tug up in a smile.

“Okay, fine. I need you back in New York tomorrow. Preferably tonight, but I know you won’t listen to me.”

“You’ve spoken to Earl?” Reon asks her.

“Of course. Without me and Earl, you’d be lost.”

“No, if I didn’t have you both, it would just mean I’d have to do more work.” He pauses. “Are you not going to say hello to my friend?”

“Hello, friend. What is your full name, please?”

I turn my head toward her, and her sharp eyes lock onto me.

“Lilith Davenport,” I tell her, and she starts typing away on her cell.

“She’s married. You’re fucking a married woman?” Hannah says to Reon. I catch him smiling at me, and I smile back before I face the front and look out my window.

“I guess I am,” he replies nonchalantly.

“So, you knew. Do you need the drama that comes with a married woman?”

“Do you want him? Is that why you’re upset?” I ask her. “I’m only here for the night. Once I leave, he’s all yours again.”

“Hannah is married to my sister, Abigail,” Reon says. “She realized after a month of seeing me that she preferred my sister more.”

I laugh and angle my head over my shoulder to look at him.

“Did that hurt your ego? You know… that she preferred your sister over you?”

“It would have if I knew I sucked in bed. But tell me, Caterpillar, do you think fucking is an issue for me?”

“Your bed antics were never the issue. Your sense of self was… The way you are with people,” Hannah interjects.

“It’s not my fault you’re all too sensitive,” he says, then gives me a wink.

I smile, then decide to grab my headphones and play some music. I don’t want to hear any more of their business stuff. It’s late, and while I’m usually a night owl, I’m awfully tired right now. It could have been from the vodka or the drama of the day before. Or, fuck, it could have even been from the great orgasms I’ve had.

Either way, I put on my music, lean against the window, and tune out my surroundings.

It’s not long before I start to wonder how I’m going to afford a divorce lawyer without a job. It’s no secret that Deven always earned the most in our relationship. Though I contributed. Now, I have no savings and no income.

I’m royally screwed.

I wonder if that’s why I decided to fuck a stranger and take a flight with him.

Some would call that bat-shit crazy, but I find it exciting and worry that my life before this has been me barely living.

I want to live and experience everything. I want to do crazy things. I want to be on the verge of almost dying and telling the world fuck it.

Maybe I should have asked to jump from his plane.

I heard it’s exhilarating.

When I finally start to doze off, it’s not Deven who enters my dreams.

It’s the mysterious stranger behind me, who just so happens to stroke my inner demons.

And I can’t decide if that’s a bad thing or the most fantastical thing to ever happen to me.

SEVEN

REON

“She’s asleep,” Hannah relays.

A soft snore comes from Lilith.

I study her from behind. Her copper hair is tied in a knot at the top of her head as she rests it against the window.

“What are you even thinking? You shouldn’t be this reckless. What’s so special about her?”

What is so special about her? I have asked myself that same question.

I went back to that bar tonight in hopes of seeing her again, reckless, really. Fascinated by fucking a married woman… again.

“Reon, she’s married.”

“Her husband’s fucking someone else. I wouldn’t say I was breaking up a happy marriage.”

Hannah huffs next to me.

“That’s beside the point, and you know it.”

“I can fuck whomever I want.”

“Yes, and no one is saying you can’t, but you also have what some may consider unsavory business dealings, and you can’t just let anyone tag along.”

“I’m sure she won’t go back there and open the cases of guns that we’re illegally running,” I tell Hannah when we reach my apartment. “Tell Abigail I plan to see her next time. I’ll be leaving in the morning.”
