“Sloppy seconds much?”

“Whenever possible.”

And there’s that charming smile again.

We finish shopping, and as we head out of the store, Cody says, “Why don’t we grab a movie at the Redbox?”

“I’m tired as fuck.”

“Come on. You’re going to be up baking cookies anyway, and I could use something to fall asleep to.”

He pushes the cart up to the Redbox. “You’re on movie duty. Go ahead. I’m totally judging your movie tastes right now.”

“Whatever. I don’t give a shit.”

I browse through the selection. He’ll laugh at my tastes—considering the moment I see a Disney movie, I’m liable to hit it. I make it through the new movies, but I see WALL-E, which I fucking love, and my finger hovers over it for a moment too long.

“Do it,” Cody says.

“You approve? Really?”

Leaning on the shopping cart, he nods repeatedly.

He’s like a fucking kid.

“WALL-E it is,” I say.

We get the movie and head back to the condo. Cody puts away the groceries while I make the first batch of cookies. After I set the pan in the oven, I take the movie out to put it in the player when I realize the TV in the living room doesn’t have one.

“Oh, did I forget to mention?” Cody says. “There’s only one DVD player. It’s in my room.”

“Really? If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were trying to get into my pants.”

“Maybe.” I wink at him. “Let’s see how lucky you get.”

Hayden chuckles. It has this sort of husky sound to it that I like. It’s a bit addicting, and every time he laughs, I find myself wanting to smile.

“Lucky, huh?” he asks.

“Fuck yes. You remember what it was like to get head from me, right?”

“I do,” he says with a simple nod, but I see the lust twisting in his blue eyes.

“Anyway, you finish that first batch of cookies, and I’ll get shit ready.” I take the movie from him and head to my room and get it in the player. Just as it’s about to start, I hit pause.

When I get back into the other room, Hayden has his back to me as he peeks into the oven. His ass is to die for—small and tight. I want to walk over and give it a swat but that’s probably not in the How to Be a Good Roommate handbook. “You should consider baking naked,” I tease him.

“Oh, should I?” he looks over his shoulder at me and grins.

“Yep.”

“You’d think you were the one who hasn’t gotten any in a while.”

I lean over the bar and watch him. I like the way he moves—how confident he is as he bakes. “I’m a sexual creature. What can I say? You really like baking, don’t you?”

Hayden gives me a surprised frown. “Where did that come from?”

I shrug. “Just something I’ve noticed. You’ve baked a few times since you’ve been here. It always seems to happen when you need to let off steam. Just figuring out all the things that make you tick.”

A wrinkle forms above his brow as though he’s deep in thought. “I’ve noticed that. You pay attention to people on a different level than most do.”

I’ve always been like that. I’m not sure why. It seems to surprise him that I’ve picked up little things about him like that, though. Has no one else talked to him about his likes and dislikes? “So…you gonna answer or what?”

“Yeah, I do like it. I used to bake with my mom. We couldn’t afford a lot but we sure as shit could make the hell out of some cookies.”

That brings a smile to my face, thinking about a young Hayden in the kitchen with his mom. “Well, you’re good at it. Smells fucking incredible in here. My oven has never worked so hard.”

Hayden takes the first batch of cookies out, picks up the second pan, and puts another in. We talk about random shit until the second batch is finished. Then we fill a plate of cookies, get two glasses of milk, and go back into my bedroom.

“WALL-E, cookies, and milk. God, I think I’m in love with you,” I tell him. We set our glasses on the nightstand. I climb into the middle of the bed with the cookies, ready to get started.

“It’s nice to have someone around who appreciates my taste in movies and my insatiable sweet tooth.” He sits beside me and I pull my red down comforter up over us and then hit play on the movie.

“Whoever doesn’t appreciate that shit is fucked in the head.”

“You’re good for my ego.”

“I aim to please.”

Hayden opens his mouth to reply, but the movie comes on and I cut him off with, “Shh. It’s starting.”

He gives me another of those sexy, little chuckles of his. “Bossy.”

“You ain’t seen nothing yet.”

“I thought we were being quiet now?” he counters.
